Representatives of Sen. Bob Corker visit Roane State’s Cumberland County campus
Two members of Sen. Bob Corker’s staff recently visited Roane State Community College’s Cumberland County campus to learn more about the planned Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI).
Paul Fassbender, chief counsel, and David Leaverton, Knoxville field director, reviewed plans for construction and operation of the CBI. Sen. Corker’s staff is gathering information related to a request for federal funds for the project.
“The Cumberland Business Incubator is designed to help start-up businesses become profitable, expand, and provide needed jobs along the Plateau,” said Roane State President Dr. Gary Goff, who met with Fassbender and Leaverton. “I greatly appreciate Sen. Corker and his staff’s interest in this project.”
Fassbender and Leaverton also met with Associate Professors Robert Safdie and Brad Fox, Roane State faculty members and CBI project members.
Sen. Corker’s aides said they were impressed with the community involvement in the project. The CBI concept has received unanimous approval from the Crossville City Council and the County Commission.
The City and County governments’ support, both in planning and matching funds, has helped the project receive federal seed money for feasibility studies, surveys, architectural designs, summer youth entrepreneurial programs and business training workshops.
In addition, the State of Tennessee is making land available for the construction site on the Cumberland County campus.
