The mission of the Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI) is to advance economic development by stimulating the creation and growth of new businesses in Cumberland County and the surrounding region.
The CBI welcomes experienced business people to join our Executive in Residence program. The goals of this program are to help entrepreneurs and their start-up companies grow into self-sustaining businesses. Numerous reports indicate that the first three years are critical in the life of a fledgling business. One critical factor in the success of a new business has been the networking and support provided by experienced business advisors. Pass on the legacy of your experience so that your knowledge can help others succeed. Become a part of something you believe in.
Executive in Residence volunteers work with our clients as mentors, ad hoc advisors or presenters at business workshops and seminars. Volunteers may also choose to assist the CBI director as an administrative advisor.
mentor
Mentors work closely with a single CBI company sharing their experience, a concerned ear, networking possibilities and suggestions in their area(s) of expertise. A mentoring dyad may be developed for an assigned client so that at least one volunteer is available at times when the other cannot. This shared team work makes it easier to meet with a client monthly and provides an opportunity to offer a client a consistent schedule of contact. Mentoring teams may also be formed to help cover a broad range of specialty skills that a start-up company may need. Mentors are expected to meet with their assigned client at least once a month in person and be in contact by any other means in the interim. Conditions for mentoring are flexible and will be designed around client needs.
ad hoc advisor
Ad Hoc Advisors assist client companies on an on-call basis, individually or as part of a team, to address specific issues. The time committed is based on availability and preferences.
seminar and workshop leader
Seminar and workshop leaders conduct training for CBI entrepreneurs or participate in workforce development programs for business and industry. Schedule and time commitment based on availability and preferences.
Volunteer members of SCORE are invited to attend CBI networking events, client workshops, special Board events and celebrations. Volunteers should be willing to make a strong commitment to the Incubator program. Hours are flexible based on the needs of the client and the availability of the volunteer.
