Resident Services

The CBI is here to assist you in obtaining your business goal and will put forth every effort to make our relationship a successful and profitable experience for you.  Let us start by explaining who we are and how we will help.

The Cumberland Business Incubator is operated by Roane State Community College with strong partnerships with the City, County, Chamber of Commerce and assistive support from our local technology center and Tennessee Technological University.  The CBI provides two types of program services: the business housing program and the business advisement program.

Our goal has been to create an affordable environment that will reduce the initial start-up costs of a new business.  Space in the CBI is competitive and a review process has been set-up to evaluate the merits of a proposed business prior to acceptance in the program. If accepted into the business housing program, you will start your business in CBI's office or manufacturing suites. Tenant rates for space, services and amenities are specified in the Lease-Tenant contract. Tenants agree to participate in regular progress evaluations and CBI's business advisement program. Occupancy time in the incubator ranges from one to three years.  

The CBI business advisement and referral services are available to start-up, new, or older businesses. Although we may refer you to other agencies such as the Small Business Development Centers, to the SBA, and SCORE, such agencies are not controlled or operated by the CBI. The agencies and other resource partners to whom you are referred provide free services. Fees may be attached to special CBI business seminars offered to the general business community.

Our advisement services are strictly confidential. We cannot and will not reveal any information you share with us to anyone without your permission to do so.

Some of the things we cannot do:

1. Give legal advice.
2. Make loans or grants, but can assist you with a loan application.
3. Develop your business plan for you, but have many tools/examples to assist you.
4. Make decisions for you.
